Glenn McKimpson was born September 22, 1922, in Coon Rapids, Iowa, the son of Erden Roy and Stella Maude (Hampton) McKimpson. He farmed after graduating from high school, before he was drafted into the Army. Glenn was in the U.S. Army during World War II, from 1943 to 1946, and served in the European front. He received five Battle Stars.
Glenn married Darlene Herndon, daughter of Fred and Mary Ann (McCauley) Herndon on February 12, 1947, in Chariton, Iowa. They farmed southwest of Woodburn. Darlene was an elementary teacher in the Clarke County schools, and later was a teacher’s aide in the Special Education department at the Clarke Community High School. She also taught G.E.D. classes for Clarke County. Darlene retired June 1, 1996. Glenn died on August 3, 2009, in Des Moines and Darlene on March 29, 2011, at their home in Woodburn. They buried at the Woodburn Cemetery. Their children are Glenis Darlene [Renoe] and Darl Glenn.
