Delores (Welcher) and Darold McCauley       Marla [Higgins]

Darold Leland McCauley was born on September 6, 1925, in Lucas County, Iowa, the son of Horace James and Ida (Day) McCauley.  Darold married Delores Elaine Welcher on November 26, 1949.  Delores was born on April 3, 1928, at Osceola, Iowa, the daughter of John Edward and Ella Mae (Leeps) Welcher.
Darold and Delores moved to the east edge of Woodburn from Lucas County in 1956.  Darold farmed and drove a truck.  He was a fireman, member of the city council, member of the Sheriff’s Posse and Saddle Club and Drill Team.  He was one of the original and longest term members of the posse, and was instrumental in the building of the rodeo arena in Osceola.  He was a member of the Woodburn Volunteer Fire Department and served on the town council.  They were members of the Woodburn Christian Church, where Darold served as trustee and deacon and Delores as deaconess.   Delores was a homemaker and member of the Fireman’s Auxiliary.   She is an avid quilt maker.
Horses were a major part of his life and love, and everyone remembers his beautiful pony hitches that he had in the Woodburn Homecoming and other area parades for many years.  He also enjoyed helping his friends move cattle and sharing iced tea or coffee and cookies with his friends after they were done working the cattle.
Darold passed away on October 8, 1994, in Des Moines, Iowa.  He is buried at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola.  Delores now lives in Osceola.  Their daughter is Marla [Higgins].  She was Sunday school secretary for the Woodburn Christian Church when growing up in Woodburn, a member of the church choir and taught Sunday school and Bible school.

I remember the guys coming in from working the cattle at our house. We girls always had fun serving them their tea, coffee, cookies or donuts mom had made. They would always tease us and we enjoyed listening to them joke and have a good time.
