        William “Bill” Oehlert, born October 21, 1925.  He farmed with his dad until being drafted in the fall of 1945.  He served with the occupation forces in Japan as a Mortar
Squad Leader in the 11th Airborne Division, returning to the states in October, 1947.  Bill
married Mabel McLaughlin, daughter of Marion and Cora McLaughlin, in April, 1950.  Bill and Mabel farmed southwest of Woodburn until April, 1974, when they bought a home in Osceola.   Their children:  Emily, Brian, Martin "Marty", William Dean "Billy" or "Swede", Elizabeth "Liz" and E'Lynne.



Herschel and Emily Oehlert

         Herschel Allen Oehlert, Sr. was born in October, 1895, the son of Hans and Mattie (Penick) Oehlert.  He was educated in the Clarke County schools.   He joined the Army in World War I and served in France in the motorcycle department until the end of the war in 1918.  He was seriously wounded in the war.
           Herschel married Emily Cecile Baldwin from Osceola, Iowa, on March 19, 1919.   Emily was born September 26, 1896, the daughter of Joseph Lee and Lillian (White) Baldwin.  She attended schools in Osceola and graduated from Osceola High School.   Emily taught school in the rural schools for three years before she was married.    
            Herschel was a member of the Woodburn Masonic Lodge, Herndon-Oehlert American Legion Post in Woodburn and the Woodburn Masonic Lodge No. 212.   Emily spent her entire life in the Woodburn and Osceola area until she moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Indianola.   She was a charter member of the Woodburn Order of the Eastern Star No. 342 and charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Woodburn.   They were members of the Woodburn United Methodist Church.  Herschel died in June, 1981 and Emily on March 28, 1996.  They are buried at the Woodburn Cemetery.  Their children:  Herschel Allen Oehlert, Jr., Joe Donovan "J.D.", Robert "Bob" and William "Bill" who were twins.
