Charles Frederick “Charlie” Frizzell, son of Eli and Everna (Walker) Frizzell, was born October 10, 1913, on a farm west of Woodburn.  He was the youngest in a family of nine children.  Within the years 1911-1912, his parents lost three small daughters to diptheria.  Charlie attended schools in Clarke and Decatur counties.  Most of his younger life was spent near Garden Grove, moving back to Clarke County in the early 1930’s.  He married Mabel Evelyn Mason, daughter of Ode and Josie (Waugh) Mason, on December 23, 1933, at the Christian Church in Grant City, Missouri.  Mabel was born November 1, 1914, near Lucas.  Her family moved to the Woodburn area by the time she was old enough to go to school, and she graduated from Woodburn High School in 1933.  Mabel attended normal training classes at Simpson College and began teaching school at St. George.
After their marriage, they lived with Charlie’s parents, as his father’s health was failing and Charlie helped them.  Mabel continued teaching school through 1934.  Eli passed away in August, 1934.  Charlie and Mabel moved to the Hootman farm south of Woodburn, where Peggy was born on October 1, 1938.  From 1940 to 1944, they lived on the Pat Howard farm located south of the Smyrna Friends Church.  Mabel did supply teaching at the Smyrna School in 1944.  Charlie drove the school bus for LeRoy school, long before gravel roads.  He also farmed and always had time for his horses.  They moved back to the Woodburn area to the Ralph Swan farm on Highway 34 in 1944.   In 1949, they moved to the Lewis Neal farm 1-1/2 miles west of the Swan farm and lived there until 1964.  During this time, Mabel worked at Snowdon’s, Dr. Adam’s office, taught school and started working in Des Moines, where she was senior lead clerk at American Republic Insurance for nine years.
Roy Frizzell bought the George Evans farm in 1964 and the family moved there.  In 1966, Mabel started working in the office at the Clarke County Hospital.  On May 9, 1972, Charlie passed away at their home. Mabel and Peggy remained on the Evans farm until 1974.  At this time, Mabel purchased the farm known as the “Cunningham Turkey Farm”, later selling all but 40 acres.  Mabel worked for the Area 14 Handicapped Preschool until her retirement.
Charlie was charter member of the Clarke County Sheriff’s Posse, he helped build the rodeo arena in Osceola.   He enjoyed pulling horses and was a member of the Osceola Saddle Club.  The family belonged to the Woodburn Christian Church, where Mabel served as deaconess and secretary and treasurer of the Sunday School. Mabel was charter member of the Woodburn Unit Clarke County Hospital Auxiliary and Peggy and Mabel have been active in the Woodburn Booster Club.  Mabel passed away on May 28, 1993, and she and Charlie are buried at the Woodburn Cemetery.
Their daughter is Peggy Joan Frizzell.   She was a member of the Jackson Pioneers 4-H Club for twelve years, and showed calves and ponies.  Peggy worked at the Clarke County State Bank for over 40 years, since graduation from Osceola High School in 1957.  She is a  member of the Woodburn Christian Church, where she served as Sunday School superintendent for twenty-nine years and also served as deaconess.  Peggy has been very active in the Woodburn community and events and led the Homecoming parade for many years on her horse.  She is a member of the Osceola Saddle Club, Clarke County Historical Society, Woodburn Booster Club, Woodburn Unit Clarke County Hospital Auxiliary and the South Central Draft Horse Association.
